I was just wondering how I would advertise my website online? It is not a big business website but is a website for free Myspace Layouts that I create and I want to get a lot of publicity, oh and I know it won’t be easy.
So I was thinking about advertising my website on some big website which already gets a lot of major publicity, please help me?
P.S This is just a idea for my website and it is not yet up and running.

If you want to advertise on a low budget go with ad networks. If you pick and choose a few big websites and contact them directly you will pay an arm & a leg. But if you go through an ad network (can rep 20 to 20,000+ sites) the cost is low and the exposure is high. They usually have categories like teens, moms, news, tech, etc and they’ll optimize during the campaign for you, canceling sites that don’t perform well and bulking up on sites that do.
Do some research on a few like 24/7 Real Networks, AdBrite, Collective Media, Burst Network, etc. There’s a ton out there.

  5. I’m not in a position to answer your question directly but this is what I can tell you from my own personal experience that may be helpful:

Asking for help on blogs and forums before jumping into any type of online advertising is absolutely the first step anybody should take – adequate preparation and planning is going to be the key to converting your advertising budget into sales.

There are many marketers out there willing to offer ‘expert training’ but be careful if you do decide to go down that route – choosing the wrong ‘expert’ will ultimately leave you unsuccessful and disheartened before you begin.

Which ever method of advertising you decide to use keep an eye on your conversion rate ~ If your website or offer gets one sale for every 15 visitors for instance, you would have a conversion rate of 1:15 or 6%. If your website gets one sale per 20 visitors, you would have a conversion rate of 1:20 or 5%.

Be mindful of your CTR (Click Through Rate or “Click Through Ratio): The “Click Through Rate” is calculated by dividing the number of “clicks by visitors” an ad or web page receives by number of impressions. For example, if a banner ad was shown 1000 times and received 200 clicks, it would have a click through rate of 20%.

Be prepared to SPLIT TEST: I know that this may be a little advanced at this stage but as soon as you can try running two different types of your sales page with two different advertisers using different keywords, ad copy and headline etc. Testing will take time of course, but one version will definitely come out on top (using conversion and click through rates) and can then be compared against the next newer version of your sales page which will throw up another winner, ad infinitum.

These are fairly basic techniques but they have worked for me ~ and after all everyone has to start somewhere!

    Cheers,
